orkutでぶらぶらしてたら見つけたバーチャルな世界。システムを見てたらMac OS X版もある。MMORPGって訳じゃなくてバーチャルな世界で第二の人生を、みたいなもんらしい。
月額$15の有料サービスらしいんだけど、けっこう流行ってるみたいだね。キャラクターメイキングも細かくできるのも売りらしい。SNSを突っ走るとこうなるような気もしてたんだけどさ。MMORPGもある意味コミュニケーションツールでしょ。ゲームをプレイすることが一応の目的ではあるんだけど、仮想世界で暮らすことを楽しんだり、他のプレイヤーとのコミュニケーションが楽しんだりっていうフリープレイが受けてるのかもしれないって思うんですよ。ただ、その「自由」な部分が中途半端な自由だとやっぱり飽きられちゃうよね。Second Lifeは限りなく自由らしいんだけど、ほんまかいな。
